After Steve Jobs was ousted from Apple in the mid 80's, it didn't take much time for him to found his next revolutionary company. He took the summer to think about what he wanted to do and then started the company NeXT, which created the NeXTSTEP operating system that eventually became what we now know as MacOS. In one of the biography movies that came out after his death, he was portrayed as creating NeXT only so he could make a new operating system that he foresaw that Apple would need in the future. It is unclear if this is actually true or not, but if he was really trying to sneak back into the company that he co-founded, it would very foreward thinking of him.
This short documentary follows the NeXT team on two retreats that they go on in December 1985 and March 1986 where they work on what will become the NeXT product line, both the computer and the operating system. Watching this after seeing the Steve Jobs and keeping the fact that he may have only been doing this for the operating system to eventually become the next Macintosh operating system, it doesn't become immediately evident, however it may still be true. I personally think that he may have wanted this to become the future of NeXT, but I think he still wanted to create a successful company and product line for the education market. I believe he wanted to get into a space where Apple was not and even if his end goal was to work his way back to Apple, he still wanted NeXT to become the Macintosh of the Education world. Check out this video and see what you think about the whole thing.
