After Steve Jobs died, a few biographical movies came out that chronicled the iconic businessman's life and career. One movie, 'Steve Jobs', recounted three major product launches in his career- the original Macintosh, the NeXT Cube, and the iPod. However, as with all movies based on a true story, it is hard to know what is historical fact and what was a result of the writers and producers taking artistic liberties, and this article from CNet tries to answer those questions that you may have after seeing the movie. One question that I personally had after watching the film was 'Did Jobs Really Create NeXT for the NeXTSTEP operating system so that it could eventually become the next MacOS and would therefore allow him to once again take the reigns of the company that he co-founded and once ran?' Well this is one of the questions that is mentioned in the list, so go ahead and go to and check it out 19 Questions You Might Be Asking After Seeing Steve Jobs to discover the real answer.
After Steve Jobs was ousted from Apple in the mid 80's, it didn't take much time for him to found his next revolutionary company. He took the summer to think about what he wanted to do and then started the company NeXT, which created the NeXTSTEP operating system that eventually became what we now know as MacOS. In one of the biography movies that came out after his death, he was portrayed as creating NeXT only so he could make a new operating system that he foresaw that Apple would need in the future. It is unclear if this is actually true or not, but if he was really trying to sneak back into the company that he co-founded, it would very foreward thinking of him.
This short documentary follows the NeXT team on two retreats that they go on in December 1985 and March 1986 where they work on what will become the NeXT product line, both the computer and the operating system. Watching this after seeing the Steve Jobs and keeping the fact that he may have only been doing this for the operating system to eventually become the next Macintosh operating system, it doesn't become immediately evident, however it may still be true. I personally think that he may have wanted this to become the future of NeXT, but I think he still wanted to create a successful company and product line for the education market. I believe he wanted to get into a space where Apple was not and even if his end goal was to work his way back to Apple, he still wanted NeXT to become the Macintosh of the Education world. Check out this video and see what you think about the whole thing. As they have the past few summers, Apple has announced a new model of the iPhone to continue to update and add new features to their iconic smartphone. The newest iPhone models will now be the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, which are now available at Apple Stores across the world. The new iPhone models will come with an all new processor, the A9 which is much faster than all previous generations. In fact the 64 bit A9 chip is 70% faster at general tasks and 90% faster graphics processing, and all this while achieving higher battery life too. Along with the new A9, the latest motion coprocessor the M9 is in the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus for enhanced motion control and sensing. And for you world travelers, the new iPhone 6s models feature a whopping 23 LTE bands for much more usability around the world. In fact this is more than any other smartphone on the market. If you travel globally then this is a must have feature for you. Another hardware enchancement for the 6s iPhones is to the camera. Offering a 12 megapixel sensor and the ability to shoot 4K video, the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be an absolute game changer. Most video cameras can't even match the performance and ultra high definition resolution video capture, let alone other smartphones. It is obvious that the new iPhones will be a huge leap in technical specifications.
But that isn't all there is to the new iPhone models. They will also offer many great new software features, such as the new 3D touch function with pressure sensitivity that allows you to navigate and access your content and apps in a whole new way that has to be seen to understand, and has to be done to fully appreciate how cool it really is. You really just have to try it for yourself to see what I mean. There are many more great new additions to the iPhone lineup with the new 6s models and it doesn't take a genius to realize that this will be the best smartphone ever created and will not have any comparable competition in the near future. When Apple acquired Beats Audio many people speculated they did so mainly because of their music streaming service, not for their consumer electronics division. Well whether or not that was entirely true, Apple has now announced a new music streaming service that looks to be the fruits of that deal. Named Apple Music, the service is challenging other top streaming services such as Spotify and Pandora. Unlike free services like Pandora, which offers a premium paid service in addition to the free version, Apple Music will only offer paid service at a rate of about $10 a month or $15 for a six user family plan, however they do have a free 3 month trial period for users to try out the service before plunking down any money. The streaming service will be available on many devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, as well as Mac Windows computers and even Android smart phones.
The content will include millions of songs, which you can listen to directly by choosing a song or by listening to many expertly curated playlists available. Also planned are live streaming radio stations, the first of which will be called Beats 1 and will broadcast live to over 100 countries so anywhere on the globe you can listen in just like you would a local radio station on an old fashion radio. Hosts will include Zane Lowe, Ebro Darden, and Julie Adenuga among guest hosts and interviews with the top performers in music. Another Apple Music feature, Connect, is a feature in Apple Music that will allow artists to connect directly with the fans, allowing them to share lyrics, backstage photos, and videos, as well as let them communicate and respond to users comments. Starting this weekend, Apple is previewing their newest gadget in many of their stores as well as a few select retailers so you can get a taste of what's to come and to help customers in countries including Canada, China, Japan, Germany, the UK and of course the USA decide what finish and style they might want to get when the launch day rolls around. Apple has called the Apple Watch as their most personal device ever, and as it is just as much a piece of jewelry as it is a high tech gadget, they are offering special personal sessions to help decide on the model you want as well as the sizing of the face and the band to ensure best possible fit, as well as get a tour of the watch's features basic usage. You can make an appointment online at the Apple web site or you can call or go in to your nearest Apple Store. But be warned, they are expecting a huge turnout and the only way to gaurentee some one-on-one personal time with the Apple Watch is to schedule an appointment. For those who can't wait, preorders are being taken now and delivery is scheduled for April 24th.
I am a self proclaimed Apple addict. I have been an Apple fan ever since I was young. My family had a mac computer when I was born and I started using it when I was like 2 or 3 years old. I could barely talk and walk but I knew how to play my games on my mac. I think it was an Apple Mac SE. I was about 7 years old when I got my first Mac computer. I think it was my birthday, my parents got me a used Powerbook 100 that had a whopping 2 MB of ram and 40 MB hard drive with a 16 Mhz proc. The screen was black and white. And I mean black and white: there were only two colors: black and white. It was monochrome, no grayscale at all. My next mac was a Performa 6320 CD that I got for Christmas one year. I was so excited to get it. This one packed a 120 Mhz 603e CPU with 1.2 GB hard drive and 16 MB ram. It also had a 4x CD ROM drive, a 33.6 baud modem, and a TV tuner card that allowed me to watch and record TV - way before the advent of the Tivo! Then I saved for years to get my next computer, the original iMac. The one that was Bondi Blue (or teal to the lay person) and had 233 Mhz processor and 32 MB ram with 40 GB hard drive. Then I got a Powerbook G4 and when that stopped working I got the x86 Macbook that I have now. I've also had numerous iPods, iPhones, iPads, and tons of other Apple products over the years. I had the original iPhone and I am a registered official developer for Apple which means I created apps and had access to all the latest betas and new versions of iOS and everything else. I was making apps before most people even heard the word app. I didn't jump ship when John Scully took over at Apple. Although I wasn't particularly happy with how he was running the company, I was an Apple devotee through thick and thin. So next time someone calls themselves an Apple fanboy, remember me: the real Apple aficionado. Just because somebody has an iPhone doesn't mean they are cool and it doesn't mean they are an Apple fan. Just because you buy a product doesn't make you cool. I have supported and promoted the company for years. During the years that everyone thought Apple was going to go out of business I was preaching the benefits and pros of Apple products and macintosh computers over PCs. I touted my mac's features to anyone who would listen. I had stickers all over of the original Apple logo, not the white one of today - the original rainbow colored apple. Most kids nowadays probably wouldn't even know half of what I am talking about in this article. Which only shows how cool I am and how uncool they are! So remember who the real Apple fans are, the ones who have bought Apple products for years and years, not just someone who has an iPhone and an iPad. Heck, I even take after Steve Jobs in many ways - I drive a brand new Mercedes SL and get a new one every month so that I never have to register it, I named my first daughter Lisa, I dropped out of college and dropped acid, and I became a vegetarian to cure me of my pancreatic cancer. Ok well none of that is really true. But I did stop shaving when I read that Steve Jobs didn't shave. He said that he would rather spend the 15 minutes everyday doing something productive instead of bothering to shave daily. He only shaved a few times a month, and so do I. And the only reason I do so is because of Steve Jobs, I think he has a great point and I would rather spend that time doing something productive like he would. Although I am not a billionaire in my 20's, I am a hard working entrepreneur who will not rest until I have changed the world for the better.
Article By: Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Jared Connell. Jared's personal blog. Jared's other sites. Yesterday Apple announced that the newest version of the iOS operating system for iPhone and iPad devices will be released later this year. Version 7 of the iOS will be a complete overhaul of the operating system since its release. The entire user interface has been redesigned, which may delight some users but anger others. Apple calls the new look "stunning" but the majority of people may not see it the same way. Despite the look, with hundreds of new features, the new version of iOS is a vast improvement on the previous versions.
Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi stated that “iOS 7 is the most significant iOS update since the original iPhone.” He also called it a new beginning for iOS. Hopefully this new beginning won't put off current customers and will draw in others who have been sitting on the fence wondering if they should make the jump to the Apple world. iOS 7 is said to be simple to use for current users of Apple products, so hopefully the redesign won't hinder anybody who is used to using the older versions of iOS. However everything is now designed to be a little smaller since the Retina screen on newer devices allows smaller text to still be readable. I know some people think that the text on the iPhone and other smart phones is too small already, so I would bet that these people won't be too happy with iOS 7. However, even with my bad eyes, I don't mind smaller text. As long as it isn't like half the size it should be ok. Many new features come with iOS 7. One of the new features is AirDrop, which allows users to quickly and easily share content such as pictures or videos with people in the close vicinity. The camera app in iOS 7 has many new features like new filters and effects for taking pictures. Siri now features male or female voices, along with a bunch of new features including Twitter and Wikipedia integration. For software developers, there are many new APIs in iOS 7. The beta version is available to developers who are part of the Apple Development Center. iOS 7 will be available to the public in the Fall. |
